Leckhampton

The New Dining Hall, Bar and Kitchen designed by Haysom Ward Miller Architects are now open and in use by the college. This project was designed to a strict budget and timescale, and re-uses a number of design features of the original hall, by Sir Philip Dowson of Arup Associates, which was enjoyed by students and fellows alike.

The hall has generous roof lighting and the whole of the south side can be opened out onto a terrace for summer events. The walls are lined with oak battens set in front of acoustic insulation and mesh to ameliorate the sound when the hall is full of students. The new kitchen is entirely electric which lowers the requirements for mechanical ventilation and is configured for formal hall and cafeteria arrangements.

The project was completed on time and on budget and the College Bursar, Timothy Harvey-Samuel commented:

"Patrick Ward and his team really got to grips with the specific nature of the project immediately. They invested an enormous amount of time understanding the diverse requirements of the College community and their design was immensely thoughtful in its recognition of those priorities. The new building is a superb addition to Leckhampton which combines beauty, purposefulness and great respect for and integration with the surrounding area."
