Norfolk Listed Farmhouse
Grade II listed farmhouse dating from the 16 century which has been adapted and altered extensively over the years with each generation leaving its mark on the building's fabric. This contemporary extension seeks to complement the original building without mimicking its style or form. The modern treatment of joinery, surfaces and structure clearly differentiate between the new and existing elements whilst the restrained pallet of materials and colours ensures that strong connections are made between the two.
Using modern methods of construction to create a space which is much more open, light and airy than would have been previously possible, the extension adds something new to the existing assembly of more cellular rooms of the original house.
The project won the South Norfolk Design Award 2009, existing building category.
