A mews type development set in the site of an old mechanic's yard, for four new high quality homes. The design is a reinterpretation of the traditional terraced house, but developed to take into account the need to accommodate cars, without car parking and access requirements dominating and spoiling the quality of the public realm. Great care was taken to develop a design which accommodated cars to the side of each unit whilst retaining the mature trees around the site. The result is an entrance forecourt which has a strong sense of place, is quiet and secluded, yet functions as a successful part of the shared public realm. The garden side of the houses overlook a park and mature trees so the buildings step back in a sequence of terraces so that external terraces step up over all floors.
