Retrofit

Retrofit of houses

Questions that you may have

How much will it cost to …

- insulate my home?,
- convert to an air source heat pump?
- install photovoltaics?

Does it make sense to install an air source heat pump in my large draughty home?

What sensible retrofit actions can I take in my home?

Will my new electricity bill be cheaper than my current energy bills once I have an air source heat pump?

As a Practice we have now been involved in a number of retrofit projects, and we have an understanding of what it means to go through the process of improving an existing home.

What can you hope to improve through a retrofit?

Winter and summer comfort
Replacing windows with triple glazed units actively makes you more comfortable because the internal surface temperature of the glass is higher in winter and lower in summer
Increased shading can help to avoid summer overheating

Reduced heat loss from the house
Insulating your house will reduce your reliance on energy for heating and can make a heat pump a good option

Improved airtightness
Reduction in air infiltation leads to better comfort through fewer draughts and reduces the likelihood of moisture penetrating into your wall fabric and causing rot or deterioration
Better control of ventilation removes internal moisture at source

AND ...

You can sort out other issues that annoy you about the house

You may improve the appearance of your home

Offers you the opportunity to benefit from a heat pump grant

You can decarbonise and stop reliance on gas and oil

You can improve your energy resilience through batteries that enable you to store energy from your photovoltaic cells

You could improve daylighting
